I am John McManus a freelance technical consultant based in Scotland, I specialise in Cisco Networking and have held CCIE status since 2001 (#7742).

I have always had a passion for sharing knowledge and when going freelance in 2008 I did mean to do much more, however I never really got into it. More recently I have stumbled across a number of network bloggers through packetpushers.net and etherealmind.com and had the opportunity to write some posts on Greg Ferro's site etherealmind.com. I have been enjoying it so much I have decide to give myself my own space on the web.

I have had networking-guru.net since 2004 and I thought the name was quite good at the time, however I do not consider myself a guru but do feel I have worthwhile knowledge and opinions that can be shared.

I have been a consultant for 14 years working with a variety of customer in financial, legal,publishing and government. The skills required for working in such a diverse customer base expands beyond purely technical skills, therefore I also hope to share some of these experience too.

As I said I am no guru, the majority of the past 14 years I was working as a Microsoft consultant only in then past three years in have been dedicated to networking and quite frankly they have been the most enjoyably and challenging.
